Mahama Launches Fully Funded Adwumawura Programme to Empower Ghanaian Youth

President John Dramani Mahama has officially launched the Adwumawura Programme, a flagship initiative aimed at creating sustainable jobs and empowering Ghanaian youth through inclusive and locally driven enterprise development.

Speaking at the launch event on Monday, April 28, 2025, President Mahama assured the nation that, unlike previous programmes under the Akufo-Addo administration, Adwumawura is fully funded and backed by the 2025 national budget. He emphasized that the initiative is not a mere political promise, but a concrete and ambitious undertaking vital for the nation’s long-term development.

“This is an ambitious undertaking, but it’s necessary if we’re to secure a prosperous and resilient future for the youth of Ghana,” President Mahama stated. “Let me point out that this programme is not like others that were announced in the recent past with a lot of fanfare but proved to be mirages without adequate funding to sustain them.”

He explained that the Ministry of Finance has made adequate allocations to support the successful implementation of the programme, ensuring its sustainability and impact across all regions.

“Adwumawura is fully funded, with adequate allocation provided by the Ministry of Finance in the 2025 budget,” the President reiterated.

According to President Mahama, the Adwumawura Programme is designed to be inclusive, youth-led, and Ghanaian-owned, with a focus on supporting small businesses and entrepreneurial ventures that have the potential to grow into major enterprises.

“Many big businesses of today were the start-ups and micro-enterprises of yesterday. Adwumawura is designed to nurture such potential,” he noted. “And so, you must be a Ghanaian to be part of Adwumawura.”

The President’s announcement has been welcomed by various stakeholders, especially the youth and small business communities, who see the initiative as a timely intervention to reduce unemployment and promote local enterprise.

The launch event concluded with a call for collaborative effort among government agencies, the private sector, and the youth to ensure the programme’s success and sustainability.
