The Member of Parliament for Madina, Hon. Francis X’avier Sosu has awarded a Toyota Vitz to the best teacher and other items to some hardworking teachers in his Constituency.
The programme dubbed “2nd edition of the Sosu best teachers award, service above self “, was held at the premises of the house of miracles ministries, in Madina.
In his open remarks, the Member of Parliament who doubles as a human rights lawyer, explained the rationale behind the award. ” the Sosu best teachers award started 2 years ago and this is the 2nd edition of its kind, and it is a tool to motivate teachers in this Constituency to keep on with the good works they are doing”.
According to the Hon. Member, the role of teachers cannot be underestimated, since how our children think tomorrow is mostly shaped by teachers .
” And this depends on the quality of teaching the children receive”.
” A motivated teacher is the only one that has the ability to deliver their best to students. He voiced.
Hon Sosu lamented that, the problem of our education today is due to the fact that teachers are not paid attention to in this country.
” Before education will do well in the country the first thing is infrastructure, financing education and paying attention to the welfare of personnels. “Quality education cannot be achieved if we missed any of these, that is why teacher motivation is a sole key in my agenda.”
The items awarded which worth about 170,000 cedis included, a Toyota Vitz, brand new motorbikes, a table and double decker fridges, and citations with packages.
The Madina Mp explained that, the award does not limit to these items only but plans were underway to take the winners outside the country, but wasn’t executed because of the elections ahead.
Speaking at the event was the president of the National Association of Graduate Teachers(NAGRAT), Angel Carbonu, who commended the good works of Hon. Sosu towards teachers in the nation.
Angel Carbonu, explained that , “the event was a testament to the timeless effort of teachers who work in shaping our country’s future through education and, excel in their professional roles”.
Winner Madam Sufa Kassim Larry
Speaking with the media, the winner of the Toyota Vitz , Madam Sufa Kassim Larry, a teacher at Bethany Home Academy expressed her profound gratitude to the Hon. Member, the organizers and the sponsors of the programme.” I am grateful to the Member of Parliament for this great honour. I am glad my efforts have been realized by him and his team”. She appreciated.
According to Madam Sufa ” Although some Mps have been motivating teachers in their Constituency one way or the other, but not to the extent the Madina Mp has done.
” He promised to give the best teacher a car and he has delivered”.
Madam Sufa then urged the constituents of Madina to vote Hon. Sosu and the NDC party into power come 2024 general elections.
” I believe if Hon. Sosu wins again and his party comes to power he will surely do greater things than this. “Although his party is not in power but he has already done a lot in his constituency”. She said.
1st runner up Madam Martha Nadia Gbeve
Madam Martha Nadia Gbeve, headmistress of Pantang basic school won the second position which she took home a brand new motorbike and the third position, Madam Celestine Akos Yeboah walked away with a double decker fridge.
Others also walked away with table top fridge, citations which come with packages and more.
Some of the beneficiaries applauded the Member of Parliament for putting teachers at heart and recognizing their efforts.
The programme saw dignitaries from the academia, the traditional council and political arena like Prof. Goski Alabi founding member of Dean of the School of Graduate Studies at UPS; Angel Carbonu , the president of Nagrat; the constituency party chairman, Hon. ; Faila and his executives; Swiss Ambassador, Simone Giger.The Frafra Chief, the Danfa chief, and several others to graced the occasion.
2nd runner up Madam Akos Yeboah
Hon Sosu took the opportunity to appreciate teachers who have been part of his success story ” it was through the effort of one teacher and the help of other people that I have become who I am today.
” My life changed through the help of my former teacher Mrs Ruben Arhin, who though is late but I pray for a peaceful place for her because she saw the best in me, provided the things I needed and gave me hope, for me to be who I am today”.He revealed.
” Apart from her, several teachers shaped my life and I take this opportunity to appreciate them all”.
Hon. Francis X’aver Sosu advised other philanthropists, stakeholders, and the government to help with this great vision” the awarding of teachers shouldn’t be the work of one person. It should be encouraged to extend to other constituencies”.
He then advised all teachers in the Constituency and in the country at large to put in their best efforts since greater awards await them.
The Swiss Ambassador to Ghana, Simone Giger, commended Ghanaian teachers for their hard work in shaping the nation” Teachers are the greatest resources any society can get. You have done a great job in your role of shaping the nation by giving the youth hope in their education”. She commended.
