Hon. Francis-Xavier Sosu Admitted into African Court Coalition to Bolster Human Rights Advocacy Across Africa

Arusha, Tanzania – Ghanaian legislator and renowned human rights lawyer, Hon. Francis-Xavier Sosu, has been officially admitted into the African Court Coalition, a significant move that underscores his deep-rooted commitment to promoting justice and human rights across the continent.
The announcement was made in an official acceptance letter signed by the Coalition’s Coordinator, Madam Sophia Ebby. The African Court Coalition’s Secretariat is headquartered at the Pan African Postal Union (PAPU) Tower in Arusha, Tanzania, and works in close coordination with seven regional focal points to advance the African human rights system.
Hon. Sosu’s admission is in recognition of his long-standing involvement in human rights advocacy and awareness-raising initiatives at the national, regional, and continental levels. His active engagement in promoting the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights and broader legal reforms has earned him this prestigious membership.
As a full member of the Coalition, Hon. Sosu will play a key role in several areas, including:
- Advocacy and Awareness Campaigns: Promoting visibility and public understanding of the African Court’s role in upholding human rights.
- Networking: Collaborating with legal professionals, civil society actors, and human rights defenders across Africa.
- Capacity Building: Enhancing knowledge of the Court’s operations and its synergy with other continental legal institutions.
- Policy Influence: Participating in the General Assembly to help shape the Coalition’s strategic direction and legal priorities.
- Information Access: Receiving timely updates from the African Court, the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (Banjul Commission), and other regional human rights bodies.
In addition to these privileges, Hon. Sosu will benefit from a 25% discount on the Coalition’s 2025 annual membership fee of US$50. The Coalition emphasized that membership dues are vital in sustaining its operational independence and reducing dependence on external donor support.
Hon. Sosu’s inclusion is widely viewed as a boost to the Coalition’s mission, with expectations that his experience and passion will significantly contribute to strengthening human rights protections throughout Africa.
