Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum Warns Against Underestimating NPP Delegates Ahead of January 31 Flagbearer Race

Former Minister of Education and Bosomtwe MP, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has cautioned political observers and fellow aspirants not to underestimate the New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates, describing them as highly strategic and discerning in their choice of flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, January 17, Dr Adutwum, who is contesting in the NPP presidential primaries, said delegates are focused on competence, vision and above all electability.

“Don’t underestimate the delegates of the NPP,” he stated firmly. “They are looking for somebody who can win the 2028 polls, not just somebody who can make noise.”

The flagbearer aspirant explained that delegates are deeply connected to ordinary Ghanaians in their communities and therefore understand the real issues affecting voters nationwide.

“When you talk to the delegates, they know what the people are saying on the ground,” Dr Adutwum noted. “Their decision-making is grounded and pragmatic because they engage directly with the electorate.”

Addressing suggestions that his calm and measured demeanour may make him more appealing to some delegates compared to other aspirants, Dr Adutwum emphasised that the January 31 contest is not about personalities but about the future of both the party and the nation.

“The contest on January 31 is for the well-being of the party and the nation at large,” he said. “Delegates should not look beyond me when electing the right person for the job.”

Dr Adutwum’s comments come as the NPP prepares for its crucial presidential primaries, with several high-profile aspirants in the race. The outcome will determine who leads the party into the 2028 general elections.
