CAGD Begins Payment of Salary Arrears Owed to Teachers and Health Workers

The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has announced the commencement of payments of outstanding salary arrears owed to workers in the education and health sectors after months of delays.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Department disclosed that the arrears, dating back to August 2024, will be settled in four equal instalments over the next few months.

According to the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department, the phased payments will run from May to August 2026, with each tranche covering part of the accumulated arrears.

The first batch of payments is expected to be completed by Friday, May 29, 2026, while the remaining instalments will be paid in June, July, and August until the arrears are fully cleared.

“The Department further states that the remaining tranches will be paid in accordance with the approved schedule stated above,” the statement signed by Head of Public Relations, Cephas N. Dosoo, noted.

The announcement is expected to bring relief to affected teachers and health workers who have been waiting several months for their unpaid entitlements.
Although the statement did not indicate the total number of beneficiaries or the exact amount involved, the phased payment arrangement is aimed at ensuring the full settlement of all arrears without further delays.

The Department also expressed appreciation to affected workers for their patience and understanding throughout the period.
