BEKWAI MP REVITALIZES HISTORIC QUEEN ELIZABETH II NURSERY AFTER 70 YEARS OF NEGLECT

Hon. Ralph Poku-Adusei, Member of Parliament for the Bekwai Constituency, has officially commissioned the fully renovated and retooled Queen Elizabeth II Day Nursery School. This project marks a historic turning point for one of the constituency’s oldest educational institutions, which had seen little to no improvement since its inception.

“The school was established in 1954, the school had reportedly gone over seven decades without a major facelift. Before the intervention, the facility was in a severe state of disrepair”.He noted.

Hon. Poku-Adusei, an alumnus of the school, described a previous visit to the site as “emotional,” noting that the environment felt “frozen in time.”

The MP highlighted the dire conditions students previously faced, including,

Outdated and broken furniture.

Reliance on unsanitary pit latrines,

A lack of modern teaching and learning materials.

 

“How can we inspire young pupils to dream big when their learning environment does not reflect the standards they deserve?” the MP questioned during the ceremony.

 

The renovation was made possible through a combination of the MP’s share of the District Assembly Common Fund and his personal contributions. The overhaul includes,

Classrooms Newly renovated, colorful, and child-friendly spaces,Sanitation Modern water-closet systems to replace old pit latrines,Nutrition Improved kitchen facilities for meal preparation,Learning New furniture and modern teaching aids,Recreation High-quality playground equipment for physical development.

The Municipal Education Director, Mrs. Leticia Obeng, expressed profound gratitude but issued a stern plea to the teaching staff to prioritize the maintenance of the new facilities to ensure they serve future generations.

 

Additionally, the Assembly Member for the Nampansa Electoral Area, Hon. Michael Amo Gozar, used the platform to advocate for student safety. He appealed to the MP to facilitate the installation of speed ramps in front of the school to protect the children from traffic accidents.

This renovation stands as a significant milestone in Hon. Poku-Adusei’s commitment to improving early childhood education infrastructure within the Bekwai Constituency
