Asanteman Mourns: Final Funeral Rites for Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III Scheduled for September
Kumasi will come to a solemn standstill from Monday, September 15 to Thursday, September 18, 2025, as the Asante Kingdom pays its final respects to the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who passed away at the age of 98. The funeral rites will be held at the Manhyia Palace.
The official programme, released by the Manhyia Palace, indicates that filing past will take place from Monday to Wednesday between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the palace. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II will sit in state from Monday to Wednesday, between 12 noon and 5 p.m., to receive mourners. On Thursday, September 18, filing past will continue from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by the burial service at 3 p.m.
The sequence of attendance has been structured to allow various institutions, organizations, and the general public to pay their last respects.
Monday, September 15: Churches, clergy, political parties, educational institutions, NGOs, telecommunication companies, corporate bodies, recognized associations, and the general public.
Tuesday, September 16: Judiciary, Ghana Bar Association, security agencies, armed forces, fire service, prisons service, immigration, customs, state-owned enterprises, financial institutions, public officials, and the general public.
Wednesday, September 17: Ministers of State, diplomatic corps, parliamentarians, MMDCEs, non-Asante chiefs, mining companies, and the general public.
Thursday, September 18: Presidency, former presidents, former vice presidents, diplomatic corps, and the general public.
The palace has also announced that donations towards the funeral can be made through a special account at Standard Chartered Bank Ghana, Harper Road Branch.
Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who reigned as Asantehemaa from 2017 until her passing in 2025, is remembered as a unifying figure and custodian of Asante tradition. Her burial is expected to attract thousands, including dignitaries from across Ghana and beyond.
