Flood Disaster Leaves 25 Residents Stranded, Destroys GH¢100,000 Worth of Property at Manso Akwasiso

At least 25 residents have been left stranded after floodwaters from an uncovered pit destroyed homes and property at Manso Akwasiso in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning, March 11, 2026, around 8:40 a.m., when water suddenly surged into an 11-bedroom house, causing extensive damage and forcing residents to flee for safety.

According to local sources, the affected residents include 6 adult men, 16 adult women, and 3 children, all of whom have been displaced following the destruction.
Preliminary estimates indicate that items worth about GH¢100,000 were destroyed in the disaster.

The damaged items reportedly include GH¢50,000 in cash, seven pounds of gold, bags of rice, beans, maize, groundnuts, and several household belongings.

Residents say the sudden flooding left them with little time to salvage their possessions, resulting in heavy losses.

The disaster has raised concerns among community members about the safety risks posed by uncovered pits and poor drainage systems, which continue to threaten lives and property in some communities.

Affected residents are now appealing for urgent assistance from authorities and humanitarian organizations to help them recover from the disaster.
