MINER HOSPITALISED AFTER ALLEGEDLY ATTACKING LANDLORD AND INJURING HIMSELF AT WASSA KYEIKROM

A 26-year-old miner, identified as Peter Okyere, is receiving medical treatment after allegedly attacking his landlord and later injuring himself at Wassa Kyeikrom.

The incident, which has left residents shocked, reportedly happened when the young miner allegedly entered his landlord’s room holding a metal object while behaving in an unusual manner.

Peter Okyere, said to be from Nyinahin, had been staying in the community for about two months to engage in mining activities. He is currently on admission at Green Shield Hospital with support from the Wassa Dominase Police Command.

Speaking on the matter, the landlord, Yaw Anaafi, said the miner had lived peacefully with others since arriving in the area and had never shown violent behaviour or signs of substance abuse.

According to him, the situation changed suddenly when Peter allegedly entered his room carrying a metal object and began asking strange questions about how to make money while complaining about hardships following the death of his father.

Yaw Anaafi said a neighbour later intervened and helped him escape from the confrontation.

He added that shortly after the incident, the miner reportedly returned to his room where he allegedly harmed himself.

Speaking from his hospital bed, Peter Okyere denied being under the influence of alcohol, tramadol, marijuana, or any hard drugs at the time.

He claimed he suddenly felt compelled to approach his landlord for advice on how to make money, which he said later led to the unfortunate development.

The miner appealed to the public for support, saying he is currently in severe pain and emotional distress.

Police have since launched investigations into the incident.
