The unrest began around 1:00 a.m. on Monday, June 15, when some students stormed through the school campus, causing extensive damage to facilities and throwing normal activities into disarray.

According to Bawku Municipal Director of Education, Isaac Abweko Azasoo, preliminary findings suggest the disturbances were sparked by the school’s refusal to allow examination malpractice involving some final-year students, who are scheduled to complete their exams this week.

The situation quickly escalated into violence, with students allegedly abducting one teacher and assaulting another, who sustained injuries. The injured teacher received initial treatment at a local health facility before being referred to Bolgatanga for further care.

Mr Azasoo confirmed that military personnel were called in to restore calm and prevent the situation from worsening.

“The military was brought in to prevent any further escalation of the situation and to ensure the safety of staff and students,” he said.

Authorities have not yet assessed the full scale of the damage, and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. No arrests had been made at the time of reporting.
