Mfantsipim School in Mourning as Final-Year Student Found Dead

A cloud of sorrow has engulfed the Mfantsipim School community following the tragic death of a 17-year-old final-year student, whose body was discovered in an uncompleted building in Cape Coast.

The deceased, Emmanuel Arthur, a candidate set to sit for this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), was found at Ola North, a residential area within the Cape Coast metropolis. His discovery came after a carpenter working near the structure alerted the police.

The Central Regional Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that officers were dispatched to the scene on June 11, 2026, after receiving reports of a body found in the abandoned structure.

Upon arrival, investigators conducted a thorough search and recovered several personal effects believed to belong to the deceased. These included a black backpack containing academic materials—among them a Geography Paper One mock exam sheet bearing Emmanuel Arthur’s name—along with two mobile phones (an Android device and a basic handset) and other personal belongings.

The findings prompted police to contact Mfantsipim School authorities, who confirmed that the deceased was a final-year student of the institution. Family members were later notified and invited to assist with identification.

According to police sources, the body had been at the location for some time and was in an advanced state of decomposition when found. After an examination by a pathologist at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, the remains were released to the family for burial.

As part of public health and safety measures, the uncompleted building was fumigated following the recovery operation.

Police investigations have since concluded that the student died by suicide. However, authorities say they have yet to determine the factors or circumstances that may have led to the tragedy, and inquiries remain ongoing.
