GES Announces Temporary Closure of Senior High Schools for December Elections

In a recent press release, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that all Senior High Schools (SHS) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS) across the country will close temporarily on Thursday, December 5, 2024. This directive aims to allow both staff and eligible students sufficient time to travel to their respective constituencies to participate in the upcoming general elections scheduled for Saturday, December 7, 2024.
The announcement, signed by Dr. Kwabena Bempah Tandoh, Deputy Director-General for Quality and Access, emphasized the importance of ensuring that all eligible voters within the educational system exercise their civic rights. It further tasked Regional Directors to ensure compliance with the directive across all institutions.
“By this measure, GES seeks to facilitate the active participation of both teachers and students in this democratic process,” the statement read.
This closure aligns with Ghana’s commitment to fostering an inclusive democracy by ensuring accessibility for voters from various sectors of society. The GES also reassured stakeholders that academic activities would resume shortly after the elections.
For the latest updates on this and other announcements, stakeholders are encouraged to follow the official GES Broadcast channel on WhatsApp.
The general elections are a pivotal moment in Ghana’s democratic journey, and the proactive step by the GES demonstrates its dedication to supporting national governance efforts.
