The suspect, Michael Mensah, was arrested on Sunday, June 15, 2026, at about 7:15 p.m. at the Pedu Lorry Station in Cape Coast. The operation was carried out by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team, following sustained intelligence-led efforts.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, who claims to be a teacher but also works as a driver, allegedly picked up the victim from Ayensu Plaza within the UCC hostel area on June 11, 2026, at approximately 6:48 p.m.

Police say he then transported Ms Avinu to Hutchland Beach, where she was last seen before her body was later discovered, triggering a full criminal probe into the circumstances surrounding her death.

In a brief statement, the Police Service confirmed that investigations are still underway and assured the public that further updates will be provided as the case progresses.

The arrest comes just days after authorities launched a manhunt for the killer of the Level 200 student, whose body was found at a Cape Coast beach following her disappearance.
