UniMAC Mourns Journalism Student Nelson Blay Nakortey, After Fatal Hit-and-Run

The University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) is in deep mourning following the tragic death of Level 300 Journalism student Nelson Blay Nokotey, who was fatally knocked down by a hit-and-run driver.

In an official statement from the university’s Public Affairs Directorate, management, the Governing Council, faculty, staff, and students extended heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased.

The university described Nelson as a promising and highly valued member of the UniMAC community, noting that his sudden death has caused profound grief not only within the institution but across the nation.

Management strongly condemned the incident as a serious violation of human life and pledged full cooperation with law enforcement until justice is served.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Eric Opoku Mensah led a meeting with the bereaved family and has engaged the Students’ Representative Council and the broader student body to offer support and reaffirm the university’s solidarity during this painful time.

The Dean of Students Affairs, working through the Chief Security Officer, is collaborating closely with the Ghana Police Service to aid the ongoing investigation, with the goal of apprehending and prosecuting the perpetrator in accordance with the law.

Beyond immediate response, management has engaged relevant state and municipal agencies—including security, transport, and road safety authorities—to review and strengthen safety measures within and around the South Legon community to prevent future tragedies.

UniMAC assured the public that it will continue to monitor developments and stand firmly with the family throughout this difficult period.
